How does the system work

The CARFOAM® sheet has a multilayer structure, in which one of them provides a different function. The exposed outer layer provides mechanical strength, the intermediate layer the degree of thermal insulation desired by a closed-cell foamed sheet, and the inner layer mechanical strength, weldable surface and drainage. Depending on the final application, the structure of the layers can be modified to optimize performance.

Generally speaking, the individual layers perform the following functions:

• Drainage
  Thanks to its ribbed aluminum finish in the part of the sheet in contact with the tunnel surface, it allows waterproofing located next to the rock. The composition of CARFOAM® exposed sheet is also resistant to chemical agents present in water.

• Thermal isolation
  The closed cell foam located in the central layer limits the thermal conductivity 0.040 W / mK UNE 92202 standard. This is very effective in reducing temperature transfer through the waterproofing sheet. In sections of tunnels affected by extreme temperatures during winter, this property prevents trapped groundwater from freezing, provided sheets of adequate thickness (between 4 and 20 mm) are chosen.

• Fire protection
  Adequate fire protection is achieved thanks to a special composition intended to limit the spread of the flame. Depending on its design, the reaction to fire classification according to the European standard in 13501 (Euroclasses) reaches B s1d0.
